Voyage Of The Rock Aliens (1984)

Having a love of musical bombs isn’t easy, pickens are slim, and many fall under the shadow of a certain Picture Show’s mushroom cloud.

However in terms of pure hard-Schlock entertainment value, little can match the campy weirdness of Forbidden Zone, Strangers in Paradise, The Apple… and one of my absolute favourites, the Pia Zadora vanity-fueled Voyage Of The Rock Aliens. The plot is basically the title – but it’s also a zany and absurd piece of hallucinogenic pop cinema with unattainable commercial aspirations.

It’s a musical in that it has musical numbers in it, but if you’re willing to let a bit of song and dance get in the way of an insane Michael Berryman dispatching a bubble blowing alien squid with a chainsaw then you’re missing out. This is worth watching for the WTF of it.

The flick looks great on the shelf somewhere between Earth Girls are Easy and Shock Treatment. -Pop
