The Ring (2003)

“Seven days…”

As much as I loved my label-less bootleg 3rd generation copy of the original back in the day, one could argue that this is one of those remakes that improved on the source material. Few titles in the Asian/J-horror US-remake fad of the 00’s (Grudge, Dark Water, One Missed Call, The Eye, Shutter, Pulse and its own sequel by Hideo Nakata, the director of the original 2 Japanese versions) managed to bottle that perfect creeping “ghost girl with wet black hair” energy.

Oddly enough, this was the last VHS tape I bought before falling hook, line and sinker into DVDs. I fell deep into that.

Well… If anything, this feels like a Time-Life Mysteries of the Unknown book come to life. This is an absolutely gorgeous film that deserved every drop of its success. -Pop
