Apropos of nothing, this is still the single greatest moment in advertising history.
The original cut of the commercial was filmed in ’82 with new closeups of Ronald added in ’86 and ’91 for each new actor. The commercial didn’t air in ’87 and ’88, but I taped every CBS special in EP mode in ’86 so I didn’t notice, but the music was altered every year to accommodate changing tastes and jingles – The ’86 version chimed in the jingle ‘It’s A Good Time For The Great Taste’.
It still feels like warm hug. This one perfect moment from a perennial McDonald’s Christmas TV Ad might make you cry – or maybe make you wish you were a better person, mileage varies.
