Meet the Hollowheads somehow just showed up in Video Stores today in 1990, after running the festival circuit in 1989.
This movie actually exists. I swear. It’s set in a pseudo-50’s dystopic suburban future that also happens to be populated by tentacled monsters which serve as various household appliances… and even food. Yes, it’s real. And it’s a spectacular pitch-dark comedy that skewers the absurdist sitcom sensibilities of late 20th century family values. Your eyes may need time to adjust for this one. Tubes… so many tubes.
This is an INSANE piece of WTF gonzo cinema by makeup effects maestro Thomas R. Burman that stars John Glover and Juliette Lewis (with special appearances by Anne Ramsey and Bobcat Goldthwait) that won’t disappoint fans of early Terry Gilliam or Jean Pierre Jeunet. It’s like The Jetsons, if the Jetsons were trying to warn you about something.
Meet The Hollowheads is a largely forgotten artifact of video store deep time, but it still looks great on the shelf next to TerrorVision, Dr. Caligari and Forbidden Zone. -Pop
