Meatballs (1979)

I’ll admit I’ve never actually gone to Camp, but thanks to a lifetime spent vicariously living through movies and TV shows, I feel like I have. And I’ve come to have a pretty solid understanding of what goes on there. Arts and crafts, skinny dipping, maybe some competitive white-water rafting, spooky stories around the campfire, hiking, Harmony Huts, bad food, mean popular kids, sexy co-ed hijinks, and quite possibly some murders.

I’m clearly a camping expert.

Anyhoo, this early Ivan Reitman effort is so ingrained in my formative core memories that I should have had a Camp North Star participation badge.

And one from Camp Rolling Hills. And Camp Cucamonga. And Camp Nowhere. -Pop

Meatballs first arrived on Home Video this week in 1981, after a June 29, 1979 theatrical release.
