Mad About You (1988)

Mad About You is the romantic comedy that tries to have it all – glamorous locations, a love quadrangle and Adam West.

Claudia Christian plays Casey, a spoiled but secretly brilliant corporate heiress whose biggest problem is deciding between three eligible bachelors: a quarterback, a preppy rich guy, and a waiter-musician. Meanwhile, her best friend operates at full 80s rom-com sidekick mode – meaning she’s perpetually horny and lives vicariously through the protagonist’s dating life.

This is a film that leans hard into its frothy, mid-tier rom-com DNA, and whether that works depends on your tolerance for gauzy soft-focus romance and characters making wacky, impulsive decisions. Christian, who’s clearly brighter than the material, still finds moments to shine.

It’s a time capsule of 80s shoulder-padded ambition that looks good on the shelf next to Working Girl. Probably not essential viewing, but if you ever wanted to see Adam West play a meddling dad… here’s your chance. -Pop
