Lucas is a movie that touches something painfully raw and real. Corey Haim plays the titular Lucas, a kid too smart for his own good and too small for the world around him, navigating the unspoken cruelty of high school with wide-eyed hope. It’s not fixated on winning the big game or getting the trophy/girl. It’s a film about dignity. About trying, even when the odds – and biology – aren’t always in your favour.
For those of us who weren’t always the name-brand adidas-wearing golden gods of gym class, Lucas offered more than just another rom-com teen movie.
It was a bit of recognition. -Pop
