Miguel as portrayed by Anthony Dileo in 1985’s Day of the Dead.
My favorite George Romero heel. He might have once been a swell guy, and certainly Sarah thought so for a while, but by the time we’re aquatinted with the private, he’s been beaten into this loathsome, abusive and pathetic character. A shattered, self-loathing mess who’se just given up. A petty man. A miopic and desperate man. A danger to everyone. This is what scared me most when I first watched this new release as a 12 year old. I was afraid to be that guy in a crisis. Could I be pushed into this level to blind psychopathy? Holy shit, could anyone!?
That kept me up at night. Not the zombies and guts although they didn’t help. At least if I turned into a Zombie, I could be trained as a cute and redeemable Bub type. Still an afterlife goal.
