“Do you realize she’s twenty years old, that makes her officially an antique.”
Neither John Carpenter or Stephen King have looked back at this movie with any real fondness, but it’s always been one of my favourite early-80’s horrors to come off the assembly line. Hell, I still find cherry-red cars from the 50’s unnerving because of this. The performances are incredible – especially the unsettlingly monstrous William Ostrander, and Keith Gordon, who’s tragic descent into sociopathy is absolutely Oscar-worthy.
Like most of Carpenter’s output from this time, it was trashed upon release but has since been re-evaluated as a bonafede classic by fans.
Lucky for me I developed an obsession with killer cars after originally watching this back in ’86, and that was just in time for Maximum Overdrive and The Wraith. -Pop
Christine rolled onto Home Video this week back in 1984, after stalling with a December 9th, 1983 theatrical release.
