Let’s face it, unless Beverly Hills Body Snatchers (1989) was the first Shapiro-Glickenhaus video you ever took home, you probably knew what you were getting into.
Jonathan Mostow, you know, Terminator 3, Breakdown, directed this collection of pickled mob jokes and shallow gallows humour in 1989, and it got immediately toe-tagged and fridged on home video. And yet…
The whole undertaking kindof clicks for me. Not because its any good, gawd no, I just never got the sense anyone was purposefully slumming it. The seasoned actors mug like they’re reacting to a talk show audience, and they’re really trying their damndest to entertain the living daylights out of us. And in a movie like this, I’m happy to applaud the effort.
It’s classic so-bad-it’s-still-kinda-bad-but-watchable cinema, andf at times, it might be hard to tell if you’re laughing at it, or with it.
You could do worse, though. And if you were the type to rent it back then, you probably did. -Pop
